Rather
than be drawn to a particular theme, what motivates Gerard
is striking colour, light and dark, and the effect of
light on colour. After a lifetime's interest in art, he
commenced painting seriously in the late nineties and
went full time in 2004 and clients range from private
individuals to public bodies. Limerick born, Gerard has
lived most of his adult life in Dublin, and studied art
at the college of art, Limerick, and the colleges of art
at both Thomas Street and Dun Laoghaire. Originally drawn
to portrait painting, he has developed a love of both
Marine and Still Life painting and has recently been fascinated
with the concept of Evolution which has led him into the
world of Abstract painting. Gerard exhibits most Sundays
on Merrion Square, and exhibits at both the Spring and
Autumn Art Ireland shows at the RDS, Ballsbridge. He exhibited
in Barcelona in 2006 and by invitation to various exhibitions
in Ireland. Gerard has also been listed in The Irish Arts
Review in 2006 and 2007.
